Can you mix two different types of video cards?

Can you put an ATI card in with an Nvidia and get better results? Also can you mix two graphics card of the same company and get good results or do they need to be the same type?

Can you mix two different types of video cards?
No ATI with Nvidia

For same GPU type, ATI is very strict. Nvidia is not as strict - you can mix different models - 8600GT with 8800GT, but it is not guaranteed to work. SLI same models, but not by the same brand - Sapphire 8600GT with MSI 8600GT OC will work.

You must have an SLI/xFire motherboard
Reply:In order to "mix" two cards together, you must have two cards of the same brand. For example, you need two nVidia cards in order to mix them, they don't have to be the same model but have to have the capability. Same goes for ATi as well. Yes you will get better results. But you need a bridge, connecting the two cards together in order for this to work. You cannot just drop two video cards in without linking them physically and expect it to work. nVidia calls this feature SLI and I think ATi calls it Crossfire or something like that. Or maybe that's the name of a card, I'm not too sure about ATi.
Reply:That's just like asking if you can mix two different viruses together.

NVIDIA GeForce FX series is supported video card for Oblivion

Reply:No! 'normal' PCI slots are too slow. It would be ok for old games, perhaps. But not Oblivion...Oblivion is a quite graphical. My AGP card is a bit slow for it. (AGP is faster than PCI)
Reply:HAHAHA@pci video card for Oblivion!

You're kidding...right?
Reply:yeah theres also a xp patch out for low end video cards that allows it to play on slow machines. I would just search google for it i cant think of the site off the top of my head right now!
Reply:Your only option is to upgrade to a pci-e.

There is no point of playing Oblivion without all the eye candy turned on.
Reply:HAHA...

HA.

EDIT: HAHAHAHAHA

vitti93 your years of experience haven't helped you much, you would know the best PCI card is the nvidia 5200FX and it sucks.
Reply:Sure there are. Check www.intel.com and see if you can find a decent video card there. If not, try eBay or newegg.com

I have a question regarding my future purchase of a gaming laptop, which involves video cards and processors?

Im looking at two alienware laptops and wondering if i should purchase the 1299 one or 1599. The 1299 intel core duo processor with a 256mb ATI mobility Radeon X1900 video card. THe 1599 one has a AMD Turion 64 Mobile Processor with a 512MB NVidia GEForce Go 7900 that is SLI Enabled. My question regards which is better for gaming, if the processors and graphic cards are really diffrent or similare and please explain.

What do the suffixes at the end of the Video Cards of Nvidia mean?

Often you got suffixes like LE, GO, GT, GTS, GTX

What do they mean? I do know that they say something about their quality, but I need details :D

Do they say about for what kind of purposes they are made or are best for or something? Thanks in advance!

What do the suffixes at the end of the Video Cards of Nvidia mean?
LE = Light Edition

GT = Fast

GTX = Extremely fast

GTS = giga-texel shading

GO = Not sure what the meaning of GO stands for

I hope this helps some
Reply:I believe GO means "Go buy a real computer" because if I remember right, GO is what is used in laptops.

Supported Video Cards for the Orange Box?

I really wanna get the orange box, but im afraid it wont work for my computer, as i have been told before that my graphics card qualifies for such games as company of heroes and battlefield 2 when it doesnt. So, since i have a RADEON 9200 PCI (i know it sucks, its a dell), will that be sufficient for the game if anybody might know?

If you know the supported video cards as well for the orange box, tell me those too, but not just that they have to be direct x 8 compatible, i already know that.

Supported Video Cards for the Orange Box?
To see how well your system handles the game. Try the demo first: http://www.steampowered.com/v/index.php?...

Can you use an AGP video card? ATI has some nice mid range cards that don't cost to much. Check http://www.pricewatch.com

Well first google in "midrange video card reviews" so you can find the one you think will suit you.

The Orange Box is $37 at Circuit City and Fry's Electronics. So if your gonna get the game. Then get it soon before this deal ends. Remember most stores will price match if you give them the site or number.

If you own an ATI video card. Till 2008 you can get Half-Life 2 Death Match and Half-Life 2: Lost Coast for free. HL2:DM is normally $9.99 and does not come with The Orange Box. Lost Coast is a missing level in HL2 and is free when you get HL2 or Orange Box or if you own an ATI card. Get em here:

http://ati.amd.com/buy/promotions/lostco...

If you want the Half-Life 1 collection as well look for either Half-Life: Game Of The Year Edition and Half-Life: Blue Shift which comes with Opposing Force or Half-Life Anthology. If buying used make sure the seller has not used the cd key for his steam account.

Hope your computer will run it and or hope you can upgrade your computer to run it if you have too.

Do the numbers on video cards make a difference as to their performance?

Im stuck between thinking if buying a Nvidia 7800GS and 7600GT and an just wondering if those numbers mean anything. If you look on game packages they say which of those numbers are compliant and i dont know if i should pick up the 7800 cuz its a bigger number even though the 7600 clearly got better reviews. Anyone have a suggestion?

Do the numbers on video cards make a difference as to their performance?
It is quite complicated:

The first digit is kind of "generation" number:

There were GeForce 5000, Geforce 6000, 7000 and the latest one is 8000.

Then next 3 digits represent placement of the card in generation: 200 or 300 are usually entry level cards - they have all the features but they are usually too slow for games.

so, 800, is a high-end while 600 is mid-range.

The last step are the letters - LE is the slowest, GS is the next slowest, then GTS, then GT, then GTX and the fastest is ULTRA .. actually, I'm some unsure about LE and GTS placement...

The funny part is that high-end older generation may be faster than mid-range new card, such as 7950 GT is an awesome card while 8600GT is decent, but not that exciting.

The same logic is true for ATI (AMD) - there were 9000, X000, X1000, HD2000 series and old X850 XT can compete with newest mid-range HD2600 Pro... they using different letters though - most common are Pro and XT, XT is faster.

I found a review with both cards compared, it looks like that 7800GS is up to 20% faster. In some games they perform the same though: http://www.firingsquad.com/hardware/xfx_...
Reply:the bigger number 7800gs is the newest one out on the market.

if the 7600gt has better reviews,i would do a little research on both,newer is not always better perforamce wise.

i would check out each one on the internet reviews etc.and then decide which to buy .

the higher number the newer,nvidia is a good choice.

Where is the cheapest place(website or store) to buy video cards?

I need to find a place to buy a REALLY good video card at under 60 bucks. Any suggestions?

Where is the cheapest place(website or store) to buy video cards?
Though I can't promise that it will be a REALLY good video card, http://www.newegg.com offers computer hardware for decent prices.

Remember to make sure that it is compatible with your motherboard.
Reply:I really like Tiger Direct..
Reply:Wal*Mart
Reply:As stated above, NewEgg.com is a single distributor that sells PC hardware for discount and wholesale prices.

Pricewatch.com is a website that shows a collaboration or PC hardware sellers (like NewEgg.com) which have the same product but sort by price.

It's a slim chance, but you may be able to get a good deal though auctions too such as Ebay.com
Reply:www.google.com
Reply:I use the site Price Watch. They monitor all kinds of vendor sites for pricing.
Reply:It depends! all the site they posted are good sites! It really depends on what you're willing to spend on! More money more speed! It a fact. dont got for ebay! because sometimes they will rip you off and you might not get! you want to buy from a well known seller!

Or even search it on froogle once you figure out what you want like the model and stuff! Technology is always changing! So for 60 bucks! you might get a AGP 8x, or some crappy PCIe
