If a card comes pre overclocked can you overclock it with ntune or rivatuner? Is it a bad idea to overclock preoverclocked cards because they are already being pushed a lot past there normal speeds?

Well, you'll void the warranty and my overheat it causing it to just run slower or just brake it.
You could try to download ATI tools (handles both Nvidia and ATI graphic cards).
ATI tools is a program that will protect you while overclocking as it will restore your graphic card to it's default setting if it's overclocked too much.
Reply:Void the warranty, destroy the card, all for nothing. You will never see any difference out of a video card that is overclocked, except in benchmark numbers.

Need some help with my drivers and video cards?
Alright, I just bought the Half-Life 2 series, and the gameplay is VERY laggy, choppy, slow, etc. It crashes every 10 minutes too, with some sort of driver error. I'm not sure what type of drivers I have, but I'm sure I need to update them. Aswell I need to get a new videocard, but I have NO idea where to start. (Are drivers something you download online, or buy in the stores?) Any help would be MUCH appreciated!

the HL2 problem might be because of an insufficient video card or processor etc. try going into options and making all options low (and make antialiasing 0) and put it in the resolution of 800X600 or 640Xthingy.

Most cards can do this, you only need the one card. For example, I have an ATI x1800XT. My first DVI port powers my 17" monitor, while the Svideo port powers my TV. You don't need any special software, Windows or the driver takes care of everything.
In the olden days before you had two "hookups" on a single card I did use two cards to do this. Plug them both in, hook up the monitors, and your done. Again, windows takes care of everything you'd need. No worries.

I need the same image on both screens. I have two different adapters with a monitor on each. Both adapters are the same model (RADEON 7200). Is this possible? If so, how do i do it? So far I've only been able to "extend" my desktop onto the other monitor. I haven't been able to show the same thing on both...

The reason is that ATI just released their 3000 series and the HD3850 outperforms the HD2600 so badly it is sad. Plus at about $179 it is not outrageously more expensive than the other cards you mentioned. There is also a scaled back 2900 card at $149 which makes me wonder why get the 2600.
Tough call, but I'm selling my 2600 on Ebay and getting the 3850 myself. Something you might want to try---try the Crysis Single Person demo and see how well your card does :)

Reply:WOW, great question! Both cards perform exceptionally well... However, I JUST bought the HD 2600 XT less than a month ago. If is SPECTACULAR for my 2 Acer 22" wide screen LCD's. The two DVI connections bring crystal clear HD to both monitors. The one I have is 128-bit 512MB card. I am able to play two simultaneous HD movies without even skipping a beat!!!
Absolutely insane card is the HD 2600 XT. Of course, that IS going along with a Quad-Core Intel Processor and 4 GB of ram...
Also, on the gaming side of things, I have yet to have any degraded performance in the highest resolution or the second highest resolution of any game that my monitor can handle.
Most games, I play at 1680x1050. But some of the new ones that are absolute resource hogs, I drop it down to the next acceptable resolution and it works great!
I advise it would be one of the best investments you could make...

I have a Dell P4 system with 3Gb ram running XP 32bit. The system has 1 AGP, 1 PCIe and 3 PCI slots. I have three lcd screens but the one hooked to the PCI card is not as sharp as the other two connected to my dual DVI PCIe card. I want to have a more similar quality image across all three.

I don't think there are any with 512MB dedicated, however the 8600 something is turbocached, and has 256MB dedicated, and 256MB borrowed from the systems RAM. If you have 2GB in your laptop, you'll barely notice the difference.

Is that called SLI? I want the power of both combined for gaming to one monitor. I've noticed that several motherboards have 6150 built in. I prefer products built in Taiwan, not China. I know Asus and Gigabyte and Abit all have their parts builts in both locations, depending on the board. Thank you.

To get the best video performance simply purchase the best video card your motherboard can handle. Oh and increase your RAM (1GB is great and 2 GB is awsome).

You can add a PCI graphics card though the absolute best you are going to do in that area is a Geforce FX5500 all in all a horrible card for gaming. If you're expecting to be able to play games like FEAR and Crysis, I'm afraid you're out of luck.

Im buying a dell (http://configure.us.dell.com/dellstore/c... and it comes with a video card ATI Radeon X300 SE HyperMemory 128mb, i was wondering if there is any noticeable difference if i only use this to watch movies. Because Right now my computer is running a Radeon 9200SE 128mb and i cant see any difference compared to anyone else. even a 300$ video card. Is it just me? does this really affect movie watching?. And the same about Audio cards. I have a Sound blaster 5.1 and dont know if its worth upgrading to a THX sound card. would there be noticable difference?

Since you're not looking for multi monitors having two boards will not benefit you greatly. Putting an AGP board in a computer next to a PCI board is only going to really be useful if your main video card dies on you; because you will have a backup.
If you're looking to do some serious gaming and want two boards you'll need to look into some newer hardware that can take advantage of having two vid cards.

I think the real reason nVidia is winning is because so many games are optimized to their cards. So what's the bottom line? If you have to buy now the 8800ULTRA is probably your best option for single slot, and the Radeon HD 3870 crossfire is probably the best option for multi-gpu (though 8800gtx/ultra/9800gtx will take them, it won't be by a huge ammount and will cost more.) My advice would be to wait for the HD4xxx series, which should really rock. I'd say stick with what you got till then. First you have to make sure you can use the video card. AGP is an older standard and hard to find. Best AGP card you are likely to get is an ATI 2600 or Nvidia 7800. If you have PCI Express then you can use all the modern video cards.
The Nvidia 8800 Ultra (or GTX) are the current speed leaders. They have awesome power and huge price tags. However they make a lot of heat, a lot of noise, and need a hefty power supply.
The Nvidia 8800GT and ATI 3870 are 'friendlier' cards. They have some excellent gaming power but make less noise and use less power (so less likely to fry your power supply and overheat your machine)
The ATI 3850 is a very powerful midrange card which is nice because it is quieter than the other gaming cards, uses less power (but still want a decent PSU) and only takes up one slot space.
The Nvidia 8600gts is about the same price as ATI 3850 but less powerful. The 8600gt has less power still. Really anything less than $150 is not going to be a top line card.
A couple to avoid: The 8800gts which is more expensive and less capable than the lower priced and newer 8800GT.
The ATI 2900XT which is about same speed as the ATI3870 but about $100 more expensive and a huge power sucking card that sounds like an airplane on the runway.

First you have to make sure you can use the video card. AGP is an older standard and hard to find. Best AGP card you are likely to get is an ATI 2600 or Nvidia 7800. If you have PCI Express then you can use all the modern video cards.
The Nvidia 8800 Ultra (or GTX) are the current speed leaders. They have awesome power and huge price tags. However they make a lot of heat, a lot of noise, and need a hefty power supply.
The Nvidia 8800GT and ATI 3870 are 'friendlier' cards. They have some excellent gaming power but make less noise and use less power (so less likely to fry your power supply and overheat your machine)
The ATI 3850 is a very powerful midrange card which is nice because it is quieter than the other gaming cards, uses less power (but still want a decent PSU) and only takes up one slot space.
The Nvidia 8600gts is about the same price as ATI 3850 but less powerful. The 8600gt has less power still. Really anything less than $150 is not going to be a top line card.
A couple to avoid: The 8800gts which is more expensive and less capable than the lower priced and newer 8800GT.
The ATI 2900XT which is about same speed as the ATI3870 but about $100 more expensive and a huge power sucking card that sounds like an airplane on the runway.

I'd like to know if I should plug both of the monitors into one card (they are SLi linked Geforce 7800 GT's, both in PCI express slots) or if I should plug them both into seperate cards? I had my heart set on a 1.5GB ATi Radeon HD 2600XT until my dad realised that the connectors are completely different than my monitor, what modern monitor would I need to purchase so that it will fit the latest graphics card?

The problem here is that the 15 pin VGA connector you describe isn't really "standard" anymore. CRT monitors (and tvs) were analog devices and took analog inputs, computers on the other hand generate digital signals. Graphics cards then did their thing before converting the digital information (a big table of values for each pixel on the screen) into an analog signal to be sent to the screen. LCD screens however are digital devices, they "know" they consist of a fixed number of finite sized dots and are capable of setting any particular dot to any particular colour. This means that initially computers were generating a digital version of an image, the graphics card was converting it to an analogue signal for the monitor and the monitor was then converting it back again into a block of digital data in order to display it. This was clearly a bit silly and the conversion process led to some reduction in image quality. A DVI connector carries digital information (in a very similar way to an HDMI connector on a new HDTV) avoiding the need for this conversion process and resulting in a better quality image. Monitors are increasingly providing DVI connectors (though not all cheap ones do) and similarly, good graphics cards are also providing these outputs.
However, if you don't fancy upgrading your monitor then don't worry. Most graphics cards (I've not seen a gamer grade one one that doesn't) come with an adapter which you plug into the DVI port and converts it to a 15 pin VGA adapter. The picture quality won't be quite as good as it would have been if you were using a DVI compatible monitor but you're highly unlikely to be able to tell the difference and it won't be any worse than it would have been if the card had a VGA output by default. No, all 8800GT's that i know of have their own fans, the only fans you need to worry about are case fans on the back and frount and side if you can.

They're basically the same except i imagine the 8700M GT costs more - probably not worth the extra money if you're only using it for normal activities. For these types of graphics cards you'll ony really notice the difference if you're into your gaming which i assume you're not as otherwise you'd be going for a much better one and you wouldn't have a laptop!

The OS doesn't make the game playable. Oblivion will run in XP and Vista. Its your hardware that makes the difference (CPU, RAM, Video Card.) Check the system requirements for Oblivion and see what your hardware is. I also use this program to see if my computer can handle games before i buy them.

The X1300 is a piece of crap, if you are going to use it for gaming, forget about the X1300, it won't cut it. It is a newer generation card but it has slow memory, it has a slow GPU, it has few pipelines, it's just... it's crap.
The 6800 would be the one to go with here provided you need an AGP card or you can't afford something better than the 6800. If you have a PCIe slot, I'd go with at least something in a 7600GT to 7900GT or even the 7950GT. It just depends on how much you want to spend.

Can you mix two different types of video cards?
Can you put an ATI card in with an Nvidia and get better results? Also can you mix two graphics card of the same company and get good results or do they need to be the same type?

For same GPU type, ATI is very strict. Nvidia is not as strict - you can mix different models - 8600GT with 8800GT, but it is not guaranteed to work. SLI same models, but not by the same brand - Sapphire 8600GT with MSI 8600GT OC will work.

Im looking at two alienware laptops and wondering if i should purchase the 1299 one or 1599. The 1299 intel core duo processor with a 256mb ATI mobility Radeon X1900 video card. THe 1599 one has a AMD Turion 64 Mobile Processor with a 512MB NVidia GEForce Go 7900 that is SLI Enabled. I really wanna get the orange box, but im afraid it wont work for my computer, as i have been told before that my graphics card qualifies for such games as company of heroes and battlefield 2 when it doesnt. Do the numbers on video cards make a difference as to their performance?
Im stuck between thinking if buying a Nvidia 7800GS and 7600GT and an just wondering if those numbers mean anything. If you look on game packages they say which of those numbers are compliant and i dont know if i should pick up the 7800 cuz its a bigger number even though the 7600 clearly got better reviews. Anyone have a suggestion?

The same logic is true for ATI (AMD) - there were 9000, X000, X1000, HD2000 series and old X850 XT can compete with newest mid-range HD2600 Pro... they using different letters though - most common are Pro and XT, XT is faster.

What's the difference between nVidia geforce video cards and other brands that make geforce cards?
GeForce is an Nvidia brand for their GPUs. Nvidia does not typically manufacture video cards for desktop PCs but others use their GPUs as the foundation for graphics cards. So when you see other cards using that brand name it means that the GPU was made by Nvidia.
Of course Nvidia doesn't actually have a factory to make semiconductor devices so the GPU was actually made somewhere else but designed by Nvidia (I think TSMC actually makes most of their devices).

As mentioned, the 8800 Ultra is an over-clocked 8800 GTX.
A Physics accelerator helps with effects in video games like rag doll effects and explosions. Although quite effective, most systems usually only have enough PCI slots so they can either utilize a PA or a high end sound card only. Therefore, it is a toss-up for most people as to what they want to use in their computer. Personally, I'd go for the sound card and let the videocard/CPU handle the rest.
In regards to Wireless cards, get one with MIMO as a minimum, read reviews on the cards you are looking at because there is currently strong quality differences between cards. Although N cards are not yet standardized, I'd still go for one due to the average signal strength improvements in general.

You'll note that there's very little difference between the gt and the ultra in terms of speed. There is a huge difference in price between these cards though. It would actually be cheaper to run two gt's then a single ultra and for less money have a higher performing machine
Also, the NEW 8800gts 512 meg (not the old GTS which comes in 320 and 640 meg variants) is faster than the GTX and costs less.

The one I'm talking about is the brown slot in the mother board...I was told that it is for the video card, but when I opened our CPU, I found out that we have non inserted in the slot...And I want to know because our monitor has a problem..It shows white stripes at the top of the screen but shows full screen normally when video driver is not yet installed...

Getting ANY! video card will incrase your performance.Simply put your RAM in your computer will show less then what is actually installed (ATM) meaning it is taking ram and dedicating it to your video graphics.
