Can the ASUS P4C800-E motherboard run PCI Express video cards?

I have been using AGP slot video cards for this motherboard ever since I got it five years ago and every thing works fine, but does someone know or please find out if this specific motherboard can run PCI Express video cards?

Can the ASUS P4C800-E motherboard run PCI Express video cards?
No its AGP only
Reply:no u can only use agp video cards.
Reply:nope.

How can i make my graphics cards video memory bigger???

I have halo 2 and i need a biger vidio memory. it says i have 64 MB and i need 128MB and the direct x diag tool says i have 251 MB avalable

Also is there a way i can get my vista graphis score up without buying a new card

How can i make my graphics cards video memory bigger???
yes but you will have to sacrifice performance for better graphics, which is not what you want to do condisering you will be playing a game, . more ram would help you if your system will hold more
Reply:I do not believe that there is any way of increasing the memory of your graphics card. You should be okay if the Direct X is saying you have 200MB+ of memory on it. If not, 128MB graphics cards can be found for very cheap.

Does Vista SP1 Fix The System Shared Memory With Dedicated Video Cards?

Theres nothing in the BIOS that will change it

1.2gb for video memory is insane

Alot of people have this problem on the internet and dont have a fix for it in vista

Does Vista SP1 Fix The System Shared Memory With Dedicated Video Cards?
it wont fix this problem, update your graphics drivers and this should install the control panel for your display adapter and you should be able to change it from there

Video cards-computer- I just put a Radeon HD2600XT video card in my desktop, it seems to be working?

just fine but my screen bounces up and down a little bit, constant motion. It's quite annoying--is there a way to fix this so it doesn't move. Thank you for any help you can give.

Video cards-computer- I just put a Radeon HD2600XT video card in my desktop, it seems to be working?
I have a 12" subdriver right behind my computer desk and another 5.1 sound system hooked up with it. With my old CRT monitor when I played anything with heavy bass it would shake and shimmy the picture. If I turned the sound down it would fix the problem... I think the monitor was my problem. But not sure about yours...

When will entry level Direct X 10 video cards become available?

It's time to upgrade my old system's video card and want to be able to play next gen games on it but don't want to spend $400.

When will entry level Direct X 10 video cards become available?
Probably have to wait till this summer, or hopefully ATI will get their R600 cards out to drive Nvidia's current monopoly prices down.
Reply:Just to let you know, many upcoming games still support DirectX 9 (Crysis, etc.), at least until DirectX 10 is widely accepted. Not everyone will get a new video card in the next couple of months, so game developers will take that into account.

DirectX 10 has just been released. ATI has not released their cards yet, so the real price drop will not come for a while. Nvidia is supposed to release mid-range Directx 10 cards in a few months, but entry-level cards will not be released for a while. After all, Nvidia still has its 7600 gs, 7950 gt, etc. cards that are still on the market.

How is this company name MSI (Micro Star International)? and thier video cards Anyone?

never really heard of them much except probably motherboards.. how are their video cards...cuz i found a good deal online for thier 8800 series card..what do you guys think...should i only stick to EVGA OR BFG types of brand or go with better deals like msi or xfx for example...

How is this company name MSI (Micro Star International)? and thier video cards Anyone?
Well all 8800's are based off the same chipset so only the cooling solution is really MSI's creation. So each and every card is clocked the same. However I really think you should stick with EVGA. MSI doesn't create really good motherboards, as I prefer Asus ones. EVGA however has the 650i Ultra motherboard (intel-compatible)which can boost the performance of your 8800 with its built-in Media Control Processor. Also EVGA is probably the closest working partner with NVIDIA so you can expect only the best from them.
Reply:msi is a very major computer hardware manufacturer. not as famous in the video card arena but i would consider them trustworthy. i would really suggest looking around for some reviews on your individual card because anyone can make a faulty card or two even guys like evga. xfx is somebody that ive started seeing around a lot and they seem to be reviewed pretty well but again really do your research on your individual model.

Do all graphic/video cards work with all computers?

No.

Do all graphic/video cards work with all computers?
yes to a degree

most cards are platform agnostic ona hrdware level if the computer has an agp or pcie slot the card wil run with some precautions apart from the drivers you need to flash the card's bios to have it work under mac os X

some cards are flashable some arent

every video card works under windows

most video cards work under linux either with a generic driver or a specialised driver written specifically for linux
Reply:As long as the slot type is correct, and the OS is from the same family (i.e. Windows cards won't work in a Mac) and you can get drivers, then YES!
Reply:there are so far 2 kind of slots for vga

AGP (old version)

and PCIe witch is the current slot for vga

for example N9600GT card is PCIe it means you should buy a mother board with pcie slot

or if your mother board has a AGP slot you cant buy any PCIe vga

Is it possible to sync two video-cards to one motherboard.?

I have a asus P5S800-VM motherboard running a AGPx8 ATI Radeon 9600 256 mb video card. I have a spare 125mb FX5200 PCI card. Is it possible to sync them both to run off the same motherboard

Is it possible to sync two video-cards to one motherboard.?
This is what NVIDIA's SLi and ATI's crossfire accomplish, though they require PCIe cards so you cannot do it with your current cards. With SLi or Crossfire you use two cards in two PCIe sockets and use a bridge to link them together.
Reply:No
Reply:Kevin S has it right. It is possible using PCI-Express video cards either in the SLI or Crossfire configuration.

You can find more about it all over the net at: Wikipedia.org, TomsHardware.com, Anandtech.com, etc.
Reply:You CAN run dual monitors where each video card powers an individual monitor.

But as everyone before me has said you cannot link them together to get better video processing.
Reply:What would be the point. I doubt you can use them samultaneously.
Reply:Nope. Can't run multi PCI nor AGP and PCI at the same time. YOu need a single dual card.

Can I do a dual monitor setup with dual sli video cards?

I just wanted to make sure that this was possible since the ati crossfire does not allow a dual monitor set up.

Can I do a dual monitor setup with dual sli video cards?
you can also do it with a one card just connect both monitors easil from one comp, like one vga other dvi other other vga in other card and then go to your gfx properties and navigate to dual view or in nvidia chose nView and choose clone and you can also separately choose resolution and blah blah blah for each monitor

btw if sli then definetly support it

just rmbrd urs is nvidia since its sli so right lcick on ddesktop propertes, then settings and advanced choose nvidia tab (gfx card name) from there and then choose nview on side and then clone
Reply:Yes, but you need to have a graphics card that supports it. If that one says it doesn't, then it doesn't. You will need a different graphics card for dual monitors.

Do all video cards have a onboard video card?

I want to get a new motherboard for my emachines t3410 and I need to know if all motherboards have a onboard video card because I do not want to buy a new video card

Do all video cards have a onboard video card?
NO not all motherboards have onboard video, but a GOOD portion do

Simply read the specs it will state it clearly
Reply:upcoming and latest desktop motherboard comes without video card the give 2 or three PCIE slots for card but older board come previous year mostly have video card
Reply:No, all motherboards do not have onboard video. Check the specs for your board before you buy. However, onboard video is not meant for gaming in that is your plan. A lot of the newer games will not work with the lesser onboard video chips.
Reply:No, some motherboards have onboard sound and graphics while others dont...read the detailed specs at http://www.andcomputers.info ...Any Motherboard will fit as long as its the same size (micro atx, atx etc) i would stay away from the e-machine motherboards as they are full of bottlenecks in the "FSB" that slow you down. Try a Mach Speed they usually have onboard sound, graphics and have a lifetime warranty
Reply:You want to re-consider getting a motherboard that strictly has onboard video. The reason for this is because they are much slower because the motherboard is using more resources to put out the video. When you have a video card, it will handle alot of the video output tasks. You can get one that's decent under a hundred bucks.
Reply:No, not all mobos have onboard video. You will have to check the specs for onboard. The major problem with onboard is that system resources go to onboard video slowing down the computer in general and onboard video is not that good compaired to using a video card.
Reply:Yes, all mother boards have an on board video card although they are not always very good.

Are there any good newer/older budget AGP video cards that I can buy?

I want to know. Are there any good newer/older budget AGP video cards that I can buy without me having to buy a new power supply (I have a 250watt.) Seems like PCIE are really getting us AGP folks.

My system requirements are:

Intel P4 2.6ghz

256mb ram

integrated graphics with 8mb of vram %26amp; integrated sound

crappy speakers

80gb internal hard drive

1 AGP 2.0 1.5V %26amp; 3 PCI slots

Are there any good newer/older budget AGP video cards that I can buy?
Check out Weirdstuff.com,(no it's a used part's computer store!). I have bought old mobo's from them,(to repair old computer's for people), and all have worked. Some of the lower end vid cards should work with your Psu. Walmart sells a Visiontek ATI Radeon 9250 with 128MB's that'll work, and it's a PCI version. 'Google' the web for a PSU calculator, and it'll tell how much your components in your present system are using, and what it would recommend. They're usually just charts for you to figure out your Psu requirement's, nothing to download.

The minimum system requirements for video cards either ATI Radeon 9800 Pro and/or NVidia GeForce 6600.

Which means performance in those price range will be ok.

These will include :

GeForce 6600 Series and above (6600 to 6800)

GeForce 7600 Series and above (7600 to 7950)

GeForce 8000 Seires and above (8500 to 8800)

Anyone know of any effective cheap video cards?

Ok, I live in Toronto/Canada and I am looking for the cheeaapeesstt but yet effective 128 MB video card which would run as good as MMORPG games. Currently I have 2.70 GHz / 500 MB / 40 GB / Pentium 4 with Intel® 82845G 64 MB video card.

Any ideas, please? Pre-used would be fine.

Anyone know of any effective cheap video cards?
The best way to buy a video card is to set a price limit. Then you can search for options within that price range. Also, find a seller online that has "compare" options so you can line them up side-by-side and see which one fits your needs best. I like newegg.com, but there are plenty of others out there.

A cheap video card would be in the $40-$80 range I think.
Reply:do you have AGP or PCI-E?

im gonna guess AGP (im pretty certain)

The following cards should be no trouble to get hold of second hand, between 50-100 pounds (UK) but in america computer stuff is cheaper so dont worry, should be loads less!.

an ATI 9600 (pro or XT), 9700 (nothing or pro) 9800 (nothing, pro or XT). (wont list more as they'll be too expensive)

or if you like Nvidia.

6600, 6600GT, 6800 or 6800GT.

the cards are listed in order of power (approximately), and should scale in cost similarly.

overall the 2 id recomend for best value would be a 9600XT or 6600GT, but if you can afford it get a 6800/6800GT.
Reply:PCI E or AGP or regular PCI i will show you all.

Switching video cards, will there be any problems with this:?

I'm switching video cards and im selling the one i have now, since I dont have integrated graphics right now in my computer, im gonna use a very old ATI Rage 3d II PCI card, there's no danger in plugging this into a new motherboard is there? cause..

I rather not have the computer for a week rather than destroying it during a failed bootup or something 0_0!!

Switching video cards, will there be any problems with this:?
Well, depending on your proficiency as computer hardware guy, the risk will vary. If you do everything correctly, there shouldn't be any problems with it. I just recently used a card (also ATI Rage, only that one is AGP) that is about 7 years old into a computer, which is about 3 years old. Works great. Age is not a problem - if the card is fully working, there shouldn't be any issues.
Reply:Be sure you have the video card's drivers before the exchange. You can download the newest drivers from ATI or use the CD that came with the card. During first boot, after install, check your BIOS settings. You may have to tell the BIOS which video source to use. (ex. integrated, agp, pci). Your OS may already have default drivers for the RAGE card, if not you will have 800x600 until you install the drivers.
Reply:Nothing will happen , go ahead and use the pci card

Sound cards and video cards... are they actually necessary??? What do they do???

I am not a techy kind of person so I really don't know anything about this...

I am planning to buy a PC in the near future, I was wondering that should I add a sound and video card to it or not. I was thinking I shouldn't because a motherboard has a video memory on it too, right? And there are sounds when you plug your speakers in...

What do these things actually do which the built-in the motherboard can't???

Thanks!

Sound cards and video cards... are they actually necessary??? What do they do???
Some motherboards (usually the cheaper ones) have on-board video and sound.

If you are just using the machine for surfing websites and listening to music, they are probably sufficient.

If you are using the machine for more demanding purposes (gaming, cad-design, music recording/mixing) then you should consider upgrading to better hardware. Some motherboards have both onboard sound/video - but have the ability to disable these and plug in cards. (Almost all of them have PCI slots for putting a sound card in). The cheaper boards might not have a video card slot - so you would be stuck with onboard video.

The high-end motherboards don't have any onboard sound/video - it minimizes the amount of circuitry on the board since people that buy the better stuff are usually going to configure the system the way they want.
Reply:Thanks for the appreciation regarding the level of detail in my answer.

Good luck getting a computer - I used to always build mine from scratch - but I've had good luck with Dell in recent years. Report Abuse

Reply:you need them, not real expensive ones, just you need them, other wise how will you connect your monitor? or your speakers? just get "el cheapo" ones
Reply:if you are not planning on doing anything special

with your pc

the builtin sound and video card are just fine

yet if you are doing major sound recording and playback

you may want a better sound card

that has more features - that include surround sound

processing and additional inputs and output jacks

as for video

builtin cards are not very expandable if at all

so adding a better card gives you more ram

and better video processing modes

even some cards have builtin decoders for mpeg-2

and have the ram for playing the better

games and even Aero wih vista

some have hd input jacks and or jacks for

recording and tv hookups.

you can go all out money wise for add on cards

for video and sound

yet you don't have to if you are not really

doing anything extra thats not needed.
Reply:Without them you can't hear or see anything on your PC.

There are mandatory.
Reply:No, A motherboard doesn't have built in video memory, this is why a video card is necessary. A video card gives the neccessary outputs to view videos on your pc or mac. A sound card gives the neccessary outputs to hear sound from a media source (such as, video, or music). So yes, These cards are neccessary
Reply:I think video cards is necessary but sound card is not so much..

You can't play a quality game with built-in AGP at high performance..!!

so to multiplying your gaming experience you should buy a AGP..

Although i don't use any of them.. :D
Reply:There are many motherboards with inbuilt cards, these are perfectly adequate for normal use. If you are looking at very graphics intensive games, or very high quality audio, you are better to buy a machine with no inbuilt cards and suitable special cards installed.
Reply:If you're into playing games, watching tv (live or recorded video), dvd, things which would require the computer to flash many images to the screen quickly then you want a seperate video card. If you use the onboard video the cpu has to do all the work. So now only does it have to keep the program running it has to render the video too. With a seperate video card you'll free up the cpu to worry about the program(s) and let the video card handle to picture.

If you plan to just surf the web, send email, play games like solitaire, then you can just use the onboard video.

As for sound, I've never been big on seperate sound cards. Again if you plan to use the computer for watching tv or dvd's then you'll want a good sound card that can support multiple channels. Otherwise just let the onboard audio do its thing.

So I guess short of the long is it depends what you plan to do with the machine if onboard audio and video are right for you.
Reply:If you are trying to figure out which type, well with todays computers, it really matters. Sure you want the most for your money. You also want your computer, to do what you need it to do. Play Movies, Games if you are in to that, and of course the wave of the future, Media on the internet.

I suggest, you get a computer already built, it will have a warranty. Get a video card that will play a DVD, and you will always have a way to be entertained.

I would not spend over 1K for a computer, and make sure it will run the OS you want. XP computers will be aound for a long time. Does seem Vista is not compatable with a lot of media yet.

Why do the on board video cards on PC motherboards suck?

they have no power to them ( I had good pci-e video card

but it brunt up ) they can't run many of the games out there

Why do the on board video cards on PC motherboards suck?
More or less all the answers here are good. Not all onboard cards suck, a vast majority do however. Now I am sure you are aware that using onbaord card slows your computer down as well. it takes the ram in your computer and dedicated some of it for just graphics. When you have a card you eleminate this and incrase the performance inyour computer alot. I recommend almost every one get a card. even if its a cheap card. For gamers (like my self) I want the best of the best in cards. Spending up to 500 in it is insane but that drives the price down for you (=....You can get your self a average or good pcie card for about 130 bucks.
Reply:actually some are good. ECS has a good geforce 6100. It acutallys runs alot of games. Not all onboard suck. But people that are true gamers will spend around 200 to 400 dollars on a graphics card. I run two ati radeon 3870 on crossfire mode. And they run great. I play alot of games though. . Then i have a anohter computer were i use it for school. But all i need is a onboard graphics card. Which works great for me.
Reply:They are cheap to produce, and it is not meant for gaming. The companies don't usually come with a dedicated graphics card, mainly because the pcs bought aren't usually for gaming and they want you to buy your own graphics card.
Reply:they are made out of cheap components ...

just to make sure u can use it until u buy

another agp or a pci express card ...

those are not for games or other 3d

softwares ... as they dont carry the power

and the capabilities to run em ..
Reply:Because they are for low cost solutions. They also share your system memory for video which can drag your system's performance down.
Reply:the vast majority of pc users aren't gamers. they just want an inexpensive machine to do their work on. A computer in an office enviroment has no use for an nVidia gaming graphics chip.
Reply:The cost of making them is way lower.

Motherborad Supports - PCI-Express + 2 Video Cards + Support P4 and Core 2 Duo?

I am looking for a motherboard that supports the following configurations:

1. 2X PCI-Express Slots - (I want to use 2 PCI-Express video cards, so if you can explain how to do that it would be helpful)

2. Will support P4 processor (2.25 Ghz) but will also support Core 2 Duo for when I upgrade. I would like to use the motherboard with my current P4 2.25 processor and upgrade later to Core 2 Duo without changing the motherboard.

I dont need a specific model, just specifications (a specific model will be helpful but not necessary)... I think Socket 775 is what I need but I am not sure.

Thanks!

Motherborad Supports - PCI-Express + 2 Video Cards + Support P4 and Core 2 Duo?
I don't think any motherboard in existence supports P4 and core 2 duo.
Reply:If your Pentium 4 is an LGA775 chip then your upgrade path will be supported, if not they I would recommend that you upgrade your whole system. I can't really give you a specific model, but if you want to use 2 Nvidia Cards in SLI (their multi card technology) you will need something based on an Nvidia chipset, supporting SLI. If you would prefer ATI your only good option in my opinion would be the DFI ICFX3200. Good luck with the upgrade.
Reply:the new motherboards are good ones, it should support, new technologies

But why not make life easier on yourself and cooler for your PC and power supply too. Just get the single most powerful graphics card that you can afford.

Do Video Cards have DDR Memory, if do - how do I find out what it is? Is there a way to do it on my PC?

Most new ones use DDR3 I think. You can find out what it is, usually when your PC is starting up it will tell you, or you can look in your system properties accesable through controll panel.

When will the new Video Cards, DirectX10 compatible, come out?

I recently upgraded to a Core 2 Duo in my desktop, and I'd love to add a new video card, but I heard that Vista will support DirectX 10, and that it's rather pointless to buy a card right now. When will the new ones comes out from NVidia and ATI? October maybe? Or Xmas?

When will the new Video Cards, DirectX10 compatible, come out?
I am currently on Windows Vista RC 1 as I speak (I have a NVidia GeForce FX 5950 Ultra). You don't have to wait to purchase a video card, because NVidia and Radeon have already come up with the necessary drivers.
Reply:Although the next generation video cards are designed for DirectX10, the old cards will still support it. The new nVidia are supposed to be out in Nov/Dec and the ATIs in January.

What video cards are compatible with my Dell laptop? Want a Geforce 7900 GS.?

I am looking for a new graphics/ video card for my Dell E1705. I have the basic package right now. Everytime i have tried to look for a card in a store like Best Buy they have told me i have to go straight to Dell to get any upgrades. Dell offered me the Radeon X1400 or the Geforce 7800. I think i can get the Geforce 7900 in stock but I don't know if it will work with my notebook because everyone tells me "you have to go through Dell". I'm getting the card for gaming and i think the 7900 looks the best especially because i can apparently get it for not too much money. I guess i just want to know that if i purchase the 7900 will i be able to use it and is it the best purchase for my computer? thanks

What video cards are compatible with my Dell laptop? Want a Geforce 7900 GS.?
What you want is SO EASY to do in a desktop but almost impossible to do in most laptops. Many laptop buyers with gaming in mind make the mistake of choosing a powerful dual core paired w/ lousy integrated graphics. It should be the other way around. If you want a gaming laptop, choose the GPU first then cpu second. This helps a lot in making the buying decision:

http://www.notebookcheck.net/Mobile-Grap...
Reply:The problem you don't quite seem to realize is that there are NO expansion slots inside for your laptop. By expansion slot, I mean an AGP, PCI or PCI-E slot. And even if there is, how is that card suppose to HIDE inside your machine? You actually see a space big enough for a video card in the machine? Or do you expect some interdimensional pocket hiding in your laptop that would somehow accommodate a regular store-bought video card?

Your only chance are card made for that model, and as you may guess, they are only available from Dell. And yes, you'll pay more than a store bought card for those... But those are useless for your machine. The ones from Dell will work.

Once you get it, read this article, which explains how to install it yourself.

Reply:just call dell and ask what cards are compatile with the notebook. they have the specs in fornt of them and you can purchase the card anywhere you like

Can i run 2 monitors from 2 different (ati, Nvidia) video cards on 1 pc?

Can i run 2 monitors from 2 different (ati, Nvidia) video cards on 1 pc?
you can do it.

i assume you have the card installed.

just plug both monitors in.

-right click on your desktop

-click properties

-click settings

you should see 2 black monitor boxes with numbers

-check Extend my windows desktop onto this monitor

-also this is where you designate your primary monitor.
Reply:Well, there's really no point, you will just get the same picture on both.
Reply:yes, just install both cards and hook up the monitors. Then go into the video settings and chhose the setup you want. You can set it to show the same thing on both or have the screen split with half on each screen. There is also a way to set it up with 2 different desktops, but I'm not 100% sure how to set that up. You will ned a lot of system memory if you chhose to have them show different things.
Reply:yes you can but you need high memory for the system to compromise it.

What is the cheapest combination of two low-profile video cards to run Vista Aero Glass on 3 to 4 monitors?

This is for a work machine (Dimension C521) I'm at my wit's end going back and forth from site to site trying to put together a combination of cards. I have only 3 slots on my workstation: PCI X16, PCI X1, and regular PCI-- in that order. All slots are LOW PROFILE which limits the cards that will fit. With Vista, you can't mix-and-match like XP or 2000. The two cards MUST share the same drivers (so no ATI + NVidia combinations) The PCI slot at literally at the bottom of the case, so no cards with huge fans or heatsinks will fit there. Similarly, the PCI X16 and PCI X1 slots are next to each other, so a PCI X16 + X1 combination would require the PCI X16 card not have an overly large heatsink or fan. Both cards must support the Vista Aero Glass interface and more than likely will have 1 DVI and 1 VGA (which is fine). The primary card (X16) must have at least 128MB RAM, 256MB preferably. The secondary must have at least 128MB RAM. Total budget? $150, but the lower the better.

What is the cheapest combination of two low-profile video cards to run Vista Aero Glass on 3 to 4 monitors?
lol, a single mid range graphic card from 7300 to 7900GT 256MB DDR2 will do solve your problem PCIx.

Or Newer graphic card from 8500GTS to 8800GTX silent 0db from 256mb DDr 2 or 3 will also solve your problem PCIx problem too.

With expensive budgets of $150.00 so the recommendation will be Nvidia Geforce 7300GE 256MB DDR2 at the cost of $100.00 and your VGA splitter shall be less than $50.00.

For display more than 2 monitors, all u need it's a VGA splitter.

There u go, all problem solved with ease of simpilicity.
Reply:Ok, order of use of slots, primary card goes into the PCI-E x16, secondary card goes into the PCI-E x1 slot. Leave the PCI (regular) slot open for later additions of things like network cards, sound cards, etc. PCI slots that are not PCI-E slots will run video cards but this is the oldest technology on the market and will run very slow when compared to systems using either AGP or PCI-E video cards. Here is a link to a nice XFX PCI-E 256mg video card, I recommend using XFX video cards because they have an excellent performance record, and they are one of a very few manufacturers that offer lifetime warranties on both parts and labor on all their video cards. I know you said your budget is a total of $150, but I would honestly consider using two of these cards though it will push your budget slightly. Link: http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/... .

Differences in pipelines in video cards?

10, 12, 14, etc.

What's the deal with "pipelines" when it comes to video cards? How would nVidia's SLI increase, decrease the numbers?

Differences in pipelines in video cards?
Similar to the way a CPU has a pipeline filled with small stages that each do a single task quickly, so too does the GPU in your video card.

What this does is take a large task, and break it down into smaller stages. This allows you to do multiple things at once and make your overall clock speed equivalent to the slowest of those stages.

Pipelined GPU:

* Wash

* Wash-%26gt;Dry

* Wash-%26gt;Dry-%26gt;Fold

* Dry-%26gt;Fold

* Fold

The more pipelines a video card contains, the faster and better the image will be processed and rendered. Thats why SLI is so efficient.

What is the difference between PCI video cards and AGI video cards?

Firstly, i think you mean "AGP" not "AGI".

AGP or Accelerated Graphics Port succeeded PCI or Peripheral Component Interconnect as a technology to connect graphics cards to a computer's motherboard. PCI is still used to connect other devices like ethernet and sound cards.

AGP slots provide a dedicated link between the card and the CPU and thus providing faster communication between them. There are other enhancements as well. But the bottom line is that AGP cards perform much better.

But now AGP is getting phased in favor of PCIe or PCI Express which is even faster and can be used as the bus for all the devices in a machine.

What is the difference between PCI video cards and AGI video cards?
Hi. They use different interface slots on the motherboard. PCI Express is the newest and fastest, I've read.
Reply:I think you mean AGP.

It has to do with the "slots" for installing the video card. A computer may or may not have an AGP slot; they all have PCI slots. PCI Express is better (and faster yet); these require a PCI Express video card.
Reply:Speed, the early unoptimized AGP cards not withstanding, AGP is always faster than PCI, a separate bus standard call PCIe is totally different and faster than AGP.

And in the eyes of a computer engineer, AGP and PCI have different places in a computer hardware to cause this speed difference.

At last, you can publish it to Flash, auto-run CD, EXE, e-mail, ftp, LMS. As you know, flash file has smaller size and is safer for transmission, i think it will be useful for you!

Good luck!

Are diff video cards compatible with different computers?

if i want to buy a video card are video cards all the same or do i need to buy one compatible with my computer?

Are diff video cards compatible with different computers?
you need to buy one with the right slot and one that fits in your power supply's limitations
Reply:The type of video card you are going to buy will depend on:

A. the interface supported by your motherboard (pci, pci-express, agp)

B. features you require (directx 9 or directx 10)

Since directx is available for windows vista exclusively, you have to take that in consideration.

If you could specify your needs and system configuration, I could help you more.
Reply:You need one that fits in the available slot of your computer

that could be

PCI older

AGP fairly new

PCI-e (express not like PCI) newest

Make model of your computer?
Reply:yes you have to buy one compatible for your pc

just go to a best buy or circut city and they will help you with it

but give them all the info on the pc
Reply:There are three different types of video cards: PCI, AGP, and the newest PCI-E (PCI Xpress or Express)

Newer computers will support PCI and PCI-E. PCI is the oldest type, running the slowest and giving you the least in performance.

AGP came after PCI, and unlike PCI which supports a wide range of devices like modems, sound cards, TV tuners, etc., AGP only handles video. AGP can be up to 8 times faster than PCI, giving you a huge boost in video speed for heavier graphics tasks, usually 3D rendering like in CADD or gaming.

PCI-E is the latest, and it gives you the best performance of all, up to 8 times faster than AGP 8x (I may be off on that ratio, but it's much faster regardless). There are a few different types of PCI-E, denoted by the number of pipes that they use. PCI-E X1 is for things like modems, sound cards, etc and gives you the least bandwidth. On the other end is PCI-E X16, which is strictly for video and gives you the most bandwidth, and thus the greatest speed.

You need to know what your system will support. If your computer is less than 2 years old, you *probably* have a PCI-E X16 slot. However, some OEM computers (Dell, HP, Compaq, Gateway, Sony, eMachine) only give you onboard video (built into the main board and thus not removeable or replaceable) and a few PCI/PCI-E X1 slots.

Also, some PCI-E X16 cards and mainboards support multi-GPU, or having more than one video card to theoretically double the video performance. These mainboards have very specific PCI-E bus controllers and will only support video cards with matching chips. The two big players there are ATi (Crossfire) and nVidia (SLi), and in order to use the multi-GPU features for either you have to match up ATi video cards with ATi chipsets and nVidia cards with their chipsets.

If you don't plan on using either SLi or Crossfire, then it's not quite as important, although you're likely to get better (or any) performance with proprietary features for both if you match the card with the board.

Getting my first iMac, are video cards and RAM easy to install in them?

I'm a graphics student looking to save money where I can. I want to purchase an iMac with a fast processor but I dont want to get "extras" that I can buy cheaper elsewhere and install myself. I noticed it would cost a student $158 for 2gb memory, when I know I can purchase 2gb of ram from crucial for $89! So.. that would be a waste of money. But I have never owned a Mac.. are video cards and ram easy to install in them?

Also, I'm sort of frustrated with the apple store because the only way I can get a 2.33 GHz processor is if I get a 24-inch display when I can just get a larger one later on. Also, it only even gives me the option to choose a vidoe card is if I choose the largest display. Is there a way or another place where I can truly customize my iMac to my liking?

Getting my first iMac, are video cards and RAM easy to install in them?
RAM is easy to install, all you do is unscrew a small panel on the bottom and pop it in. Also, be very careful about what type of RAM you get...iMacs are notoriously picky about compatibility with third party RAM.

Other than that, iMacs are not user serviceable. You cant swap optical drives, hard drives, graphics cards or anything else. RAM is pretty much the only thing you can install yourself, so just get all the options you want on it when you buy it, b/c you'll be stuck with whatever you buy. Its money well spent though, macs hold their value and are super reliable.

As far as processor goes, you really wont notice much difference between the 2.33 GHz and the next model down processor. I was using a 1.86 GHZ Core Duo 2 last year with 1GB RAM at my job and the thing flew.

If you're doing serious graphic work though, and you want a more customizable machine, maybe look at the Mac Pro? Apple sets the standards with options so pretty much no matter where you buy you'll have the same options. The Apple store will give you a bit more flexibility in choice.
Reply:If you want a customizable system, get a Mac Pro. You don't get as many choices in the consumer space. As for an iMac... RAM isn't hard to upgrade. Video cards are another story. You could try Apple resellers to see if you can find more options, but I doubt it. What's wrong with 1GB of RAM? It works fine for me. It's not Windows Vista, you don't need 4GB of RAM just to run the operating system.

How do these 2 video cards compare?

I want to buy a laptop with a good enough video card to do decent gaming. Will this work?

256MB NVIDIA® GeForce® Go 7300 TurboCache*

how does it compare to desktop video cards, such as the Nvidia 6600...

80GB 5400rpm SATA Hard Drive

24X CD Burner/DVD Combo Drive

256MB NVIDIA® GeForce® Go 7300 TurboCache*

for $827.00

is that a good deal... I think it is. give me some feedback

How do these 2 video cards compare?
My recollection from researching this in the not too distant past was that to get anything like decent gaming on a laptop graphics card from nvidia, you want something from the x600, x800, x900, or x950 line. The 7300 is described by nvidia as a "Thin and light" laptop video card. The minimum I would recommend is a Go 6800 or a Go 7600 GT if you want to game. Really, though, you shouldn't consider anything below a Go 7800 if you plan on keeping the laptop for more than a year and still want to game much on it.

Regardless, any of the cards I mention above will probably add $100-300 to your laptop's price.
Reply:The best way to build a desktop computer is to buy the parts yourself and instal them. Depending on if your motherboard is already mounted to your case (which some websites will do for your for a small price or even free sometimes) it doesn't take too much know-how. However if you're just not willing to go that way then the setup you have right now would be good enough for gaming. 256MB will get you through most all games today at Normal or higher settings. If you have a little extra money though, consider upgrading to a 512MB card, and if you have even a lil more, consider running two 512MB video cards in SLI mode (which basically means at the same time). Although if you do this you might want something bigger than a 15" screen (maybe 18" or 20")
Reply:A Go 7300GS is just over half as powerful as a full GeForce 6600GT. To be honest, it's good enough for basic gaming. It's difficult to get more powerful graphics card in laptops due to their high power consumption and heat production. This is a good deal, go for it :)

Where can I find Video Cards compatible with Dell Dimension 2400 and how would I install it?

Your computer only supports PCI cards so you should look at these

http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/...

Just buy which ever you like and when you have it and want to install it simply open your case and find the PCI slots. A PCI slot looks like this

http://www.hothardware.com/reviews/image...

The white ones are PCI slots. Insert the card on one of those slots and make sure its tightly in but just make sure you dont push the card in too hard 'cause you might damage your board. Close everything up, Start the pc, Install the drivers and that's it.

If you feel a bit confused on what to do just look on youtube for "How to install a video card" and learn from others that do it.

Goodluck!.

Where can I find Video Cards compatible with Dell Dimension 2400 and how would I install it?
The only type of card the Dimension 2400 supports is a PCI card. It does not have AGP or PCI-e cards (the newer technology). Currently you have an integrated video card. It does not say if any of the slots are open.

Do most major ATI and GEFORCE mobile video cards work with as many games as desktop counterparts?

I dont see ATI Radeon X1400 and Geforce 7400 series video cards on most game test lists. will it work just as well as the video cards of the same series that aren't mobile (will they support the same games?) I'm buying a laptop and wondering if ill be able to game as well as on my PC.

Do most major ATI and GEFORCE mobile video cards work with as many games as desktop counterparts?
Apparently, I'm the only one who read your question. Yes, they should also work with the same games the desktop series of cards do. They may not run as efficiently, but they will still work: that's what they're designed for. They're only not included in lists because usually they're not used. And they're only numbered differently to distinguish them from their desktop counterparts.
Reply:I quote "will it work just as well as the video cards of the same series that aren't mobile" to which I said no. They aren't as fast and they won't run the games as well. Will they work, meh, probably, would I bother, no, I'd get a desktop. Report Abuse

Reply:pc's will always have better gfx than laptops and will always have a higher perfromance than laptops becuase laptops are made to have small components and use up as little power as possiable where as with desktop pc's it does not matter so there is no limit to how powerfull a desktop can be
Reply:If you're asking if they are as fast or as powerful as their desktop counterparts, the answer is no. If you are lucky you will be able to locate a laptop with a Geforce 7600Go or 7700Go which is as of right now your best bet for laptops when it comes to the price/performance ratio.

They don't make a desktop version of the X1400 or 7400 but their closest matches are probably the X1300 or 7300GS/GT respectively.

Better to have two video cards or one?

a) getting the one card that is 512MB is cheaper

b) getting the one card will leave options for upgrading and adding a second similar card.

I want to know, however, if two video cards (each with half the power of the one) are better than one, or if one card is better, based on pure performance. Any experience/opinions are greatly appreciated

Putting video cards into a laptop?

Hi, would I be able to put a nVidia GeForce 8600GT into my laptop? It is just a cheap one of ebay. Will it fit in or do laptops have a special smaller video card?

Putting video cards into a laptop?
no, unless you have a barebone notebook that you purchased. Otherwise, they're usually soldered to the motherboard. So unless you are REALLY good with a soldering iron, no go.
Reply:no it will not work, you can only upgrade the graphics card for desktops i believe because pretty much all laptops i believe have integrated graphics which means that the graphics card is built into your motherboard, just put that bad boy on your desktop, now i could be wrong so anybody who reads this besides the asker go ahead and correct my mistake, email me

If you have an integrated graphics card like Intel GMA series, then the answer is a definite NO!.

Can you have two video cards in the same computer?

I was wondering right now i have a ATI Radeon series 9550 card and just got a new comp with a ATI Radeon™ X1200. I heard that the x1200 is not very good and its the low end of graphics stuff so i wanted to put my other 9550 card in the computer as well, i was wondering if thats possible?

Can you have two video cards in the same computer?
No. You will need to take out one and replace it with the other.
Reply:You would have to disable one of them in device manager.

Unless you have the Crossfire setup, that connects two Crossfire video cards to one monitor.

http://www.legitreviews.com/article/286/...
Reply:You can have two of the exact same running.
Reply:You can have two video cards running, but they have to be of the same type, SLI capable, with a SLI capable board as well.
Reply:To be honest, both the 9550 and the x1200 are quite low end. However, the x1200 is considered even below the "low-end" mark and is in most cases not even being advertised as a worthwhile card for the current generation of games and demanding applications. Also, neither card is ATI Crossfire compatible, which is the technology that enables two video cards to be used simultaneously. Even if they were, the difference between the cards in terms of power is too great to make it worth your while. All in all, the answer is no. You cannot add the 9550 to your computer as well - although you MAY be able to replace the x1200 with the 9550, which would probably be a slight improvement.

Hope it was helpful,

and best of luck!

Why are video cards with fans made with the fan on the wrong side?

It may just be me or something but it seems with this motherboard:

BFG Tech BFG680i SLi

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.as...

and SLI with these Video cards:

XFX GeForce 8800GTX 768MB(x2)

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.as...

That its a waste of a pci slot because you would think that the fan would be made to occupy the side with the x4 PCIE slot?

I have never built a computer before so I might just be looking at it wrong.

Why are video cards with fans made with the fan on the wrong side?
Well you have a point, but it becomes a bit difficult to organize things. Think about it, first you only have 7 slots to work with. So if you are running 2 of those in SLI, that will take up 4 slots, leaving you only 3 to work with. Now since this board is made to use that third PCI Express x16 (it runs at x8, but you get the point) for a physics card in the future, that one has to be left open. So now you only have 2 slots open. So I guess they figured best way to do it was to have one plain PCI and one PCI Express x1 fill those open slots, that way you have one of each to work with.
Reply:That's the side where the GPU (Graphics Processing Unit) is situated. i.e., the side that needs to be cooled down to prevent the GPU from overheating, and causing it damage. It's an industry standard that the GPU is on that side of the card.

Sadly, because of the fan, it does usually block the next socket on the motherboard. (Earlier video cards hadn't used to have fans fitted, so it wasn't a problem.)
Reply:well for the 8800GTX, since it is so large in height wise (same as all other 512mb or higher vid cards) it would block your CPU fan if you were to get an after market one.

I have an aftermarket fan, taht if the card was upside down, i wouldn't be able to fit it in.

and plus, who and what uses a PCI x4 slot?
Reply:The fans keep the card cool down as you play your games it would heat up

Are there any 512MB PCI Video Cards Out There For Me?

I am worried about a certain game that I play telling me that my current graphics card...ATI Radeon 9250 Series doesn't meet the recomended requirements for the game. My current card is 256MB so I already know that to get a better card it would have to be 512MB, but all I am seeing is PCI-Express and AGP which I don't have and so I am freaking out a bit here. Anyone know what I can do or if there is anything out there for me?

Are there any 512MB PCI Video Cards Out There For Me?
You should be freaking out that you are still using PCI graphics.

It's time to upgrade unfortunately.

There will never be any PCI 512MB gaming cards.
Reply:Sorry Fox, there is NO 512Mb GPUs out there for PCI. if thats all you have, stick with it. Because you might have to upgrade to a whole new computer. Not that that's a bad idea it seems.

I see video cards on the market with DMS-59 connectors. Is this technology on the rise or on the decline?

I sell computer cables and am wondering if these are something I should look into carrying.

I see video cards on the market with DMS-59 connectors. Is this technology on the rise or on the decline?
video cards mostly use a DVI connector. a DMS-59 connector looks similar to a DVI however, the DMS-59 actually contains 2 DVI or VGA signals in one connector.

video cards that do have a DMS-59, are typically used on workstations, servers, and other commercial equipment. because DVI can actually support 2 monitors itself, this allows 4 monitors to be connected to a single cord.

i dont think you will ever see a DMS-59 in a consumer PC, so i guess youll have to look at the demographic of your customers.

What does "bits" mean in video cards?

PLEASE READ THIS:

Now that I caught your attention, I would like to explain what I'm talking about before you go all willy-nilly answering something different.

Well you know there's many different video cards on the market. Like an Nvidia Geforce 7600 256-bit.

What does the 'bit' mean? Also yes, I know my video cards to know that 7600 = only an idiot would buy this with the 9 series being out

What does "bits" mean in video cards?
256-bit refers to memory bus bandwidth on the graphic card. 256-bit is considered very good, coupled with GDDR3 ram.

Why this is mentioned on websites? Because some manufacturers use cheaper-to-make 128 or 64bit memory bus on cards. These often have 256-512mb ram and a very low price tag, so general public buys them thinking they got a bargain. But the low memory bandwidth kills all performance.

As a side note: 7600GT is not an idiots card. That award goes to 8600GTS and Radeon HD3650, u can easily buy something (bit older) for similar money thats LOT faster: 8800GTS 320mb.
Reply:I am writing to you very slow because I know you don't read too fast, You fooled me, I don't know.
Reply:it is the amount of information that be processed per clock cycle of the cards processor

Can you explain video cards please?

Ok so the two main brand things are ATI and NVidia right? What are all the other brands like BFG, Sapphire, Innovision, Gainward? I mean when I'm looking up a Nvidia geforce video card there's actual 'nvidia geforce 7xxx etc' cards and then i find all these others like 'innovision 7xxx Geoforce blah blah.'

If I require a Nvidia geforce 7600, that would include all the other brands that say they're a (eg) ' InnoVision nVidia GeForce 7600 GS 512MB' or 'Gainward BLISS 7600GS nVidia GeForce 7600 GS 256MB', as well wouldn't it

Say you can get a Nvidia Geforce 7xxx in each Innovision, Gainward, Sapphire. If they each say they are a geoforce 7xxx from Nvidia aren't they all going to be the same? or do the companies change them? I'm a bit lost.

Please just explain the whole brand thing.

Can you explain video cards please?
the name brands like BFG or watever take a base ati or nvidia card and maybe overclock it slightly and create their own custom bios for it sometimes to give slightly better proclaimed performance ... and thats somthing u can usually do urself with a cheaper base card ... and they also sometimes add a custom fan.
Reply:Nvidia and ATI mainly make video card chipsets. The different brands then create cards using the chipset and ram. The different companies will use different types and amounts of RAM to complete a card. The companies may use slightly different drivers because of this also. But for the most part, they will probably be very similar.

Note: be careful of cards using turbocache or hypermemory, they use system memory instead of only memory on the video card (which will be slower).
Reply:What the person said before used to be true but most manufacturers who sell cards based on Nvidia or ATI chipsets are what they call reference cards. Which in many cases means that they are made oversees by a company who then ships them to companies like BFG EVGA Gainward etc for branding. So your best bet is to get the one with the best warranty and customer service. Used to be EVGA was hands down the best as they used to cross ship and pay return shipping. They are stil prob the best since you can basically overclock the card till it explodes, ship them the pieces and they will ship you back a working card without question. Lifetime warranty etc. I would stay awat from the 7600 unless you get it very very cheap. The 8800's are out now and you can pick up 7800 or 7900s cheap and they blow the 7600 out of the water by a mile.

Can video cards on notebook computers be upgraded?

I have an old ATI Mobility Radeon card that is freezing up; was wondering if you can even upgrade these adapters on a notebook computer.

Can video cards on notebook computers be upgraded?
if it is not a motherboard attached graphic card then it is possible. go to ati.com and find catalyst control for your graphic card. Maybe too much heat from your laptop is destroying your card. get one of those cooling fans that placed under your laptop
Reply:Generally speaking, no. I can't speak to all laptops out there, but I know of none that have upgradable video.
Reply:Depends on your motherboard, sometimes it can and sometimes it can't.
Reply:No, and very few newer laptops has this option, even if they can, they are limited to what the laptop manufactures allows.

Is there a way to find brand/model of video and sound cards which are not yet installed on winxp?

i reinstalled winxp but i cannot install the drivers for my sound and video cards as i have no idea about what their brand or model is. Is there a way to figure out the models even when they are not already installed?

Is there a way to find brand/model of video and sound cards which are not yet installed on winxp?
If you still have the box, it would be on there; or you could read the card manual; or open your computer and look at the card.

Proton LED in Lyons GA asks - What brand is the best for video cards?

If you mean for PURE SPEED, then read this link:

http://www.maximumpc.com/article/xfx_880...

There are a few factors that make a video card the "best" for your situation. Do you Game? Is it for 3D design? Is it for an HTPC? Do you care how much it costs, or how loud it is? these things are usually far more important than raw speed.

Where can I find Video Cards compatible with Dell Dimension 2400 and how would I install it?

if my info is right you can only put in a pci card not a pci express.pci video cards are no longer avalible.i really dont think there is anything you can do.thats why they are so cheap.better off buying a refurbished computer witha avg or an pci express slot for a video card.

What are some good video cards for gaming?

I'm on a budget, need PCI express, and must be atleast 128 mb and preferably a Nvidia, I actually ordered a GEFORE 7600GT 256 MB PCI-e but i would also like to know your opinions

What are some good video cards for gaming?
Best place to look is Newegg.com ther are many. for the ATI side the 1600 series and up are very good and usually between 100 and 300 dollars but you can go as low as 1300 series, and for gforce the 6600 series and up are usually good and are usually priced from 100 to 500 dollars but once again at a minimun you'll want a 6200 series. And in today day and age i dont recomend below a 256 meg vid card for gaming.
Reply:I have a Radeon Pro X800 and it works very well.

What video card is better for windows vista, instead of mine Intel. Does anybody know of any good video cards?

Well number one, if you're referring to a notebook computer most likely your graphics card is not upgradeable. Very few notebooks have upgradeable graphic cards.

If you're referring to a desktop then you should go with a graphics card with atleast 256, but go for the 512 graphics card such as the Nvidia mentioned as the better the graphics card, the smoother and problem free your Vista will run, however simply updating your RAM can increase your speed if thats your real problem and to do that, use the tool on http://www.crucial.com to have it detect and tell you how much ram your computer has and is capable of Maxing out on... then go to Newegg.com and buy it there... you'll never find a computer part for cheaper than you will on newegg.

Hope that helps

What video card is better for windows vista, instead of mine Intel. Does anybody know of any good video cards?
Go with either ATI or Nvidia graphics cards, they are the most powerful. If you want to do gaming that is. They can be pretty expensive to (depending on the power you buy).

For HD gaming I'd get a 512-768 MB card.

For normal, not overly-detailed games- 256 MB

For just using vista, your integrated card should be fine.

First, need to know what you have to know if you need to upgrade.

Right click My Computer %26gt; Properties %26gt; Hardware Tab %26gt; Device Manager button %26gt; click the + next to Display Adapters.

There's a good chance you'll have a Radeon 9800Pro. This is a damn strong card and there isn't much available as an upgrade. Nvidia does have AGP versions of the 7300 out for close to the fastest card without a motherboard upgrade.

However, you might just save your money for a whole new PC since AGP is dying and spending money on upgrading to old technology is rarely a good idea.

PC High-end video cards that can beat PS3 and XBOX 360?

Are there any video cards for the PC that can match up or even beat the PS3 and XBOX 360 in terms of performance? What PC specs (including the processor, RAM, motherboard, video card) could beat or match up with the computer consoles?

PC High-end video cards that can beat PS3 and XBOX 360?
Check the Nvidia webstie. Anything that is capable of dx 10 will beat the xbox 360. To get the power including CPU, GPU (which for the ps3 is an Nvidia RSX) and motherboard to beat the PS3 you'd have to get an Cell broad band processor etc... Which right now to build a PC capable of beating the PS3 power would cost roughly over $2500 to $4000. The graphics card alone would be almost $1000+.
Reply:not much can beat these machine wish i could afford one

Even if the mother board is burned out, is the memory, video cards, processor and hard drives good?

I was given a bunch of computers, I am hoping to build me one just to see if I can do it.

Can anyone give me any tips?

Even if the mother board is burned out, is the memory, video cards, processor and hard drives good?
There's always a possibility since the burnt motherboard sometimes will send over range voltage and may damage any hardware connects to it
Reply:Mother boards are only one piece among many inside computers. If a motherboard burns out, it is very possible that everything else could be just fine. (all my stuff was when my motherboard fried) However, it could be possible that it might damage other pieces as well. Aside from any physical damage, the only way to know for sure is to plug it in and try it.

As for building your own working computer out of parts, it might be more trouble than its worth. Not all memory works in all motherboards. The same is true for processors. Video cards are usually interchangeable, but there are still different slot types (AGP or PCI for example). Another concern is a power supply. If it is not the correct wattage, then you could damage compontents. (when my motherboard fried, I had to get a new power supply because the old one was not powerful enough for the new motherboard that I purchased)

Hope this helps.
Reply:in most cases, no (the other parts will still be good)

there is a small chance that a burned motherboard will take down other parts with it too (but it's small)

most computer parts (like video cards, processors, etc.) contain voltage regulators that prevent them from being damaged from too much voltage (spikes) even if the motherboard gets fried

i've pulled out and re used several computer parts from computers that have had fried motherboards
Reply:depends entirely on what caused the "burn-out" ... could be that whatever fried the board also fried the other components ... especially the Ram.

But what have you got to lose??? ... just try swappin' bits over (assuming they are all compatible and you're not mixing AMD and Intel stuff) until you get something that at least POSTs
Reply:might of caused static and shocked the card or drives

but just check em out on a crappy computer to see if there ight

Computer Specs for Games, Reccommend Video Cards?

I have a P4 2.4ghz, 2gb ram, a bad video card (Probably Geforce 5 series).

If I want to run games such as Oblivion, Assassin's Creed or Gears of Wars which do I need to upgrade? Video card or Processor? Or Both?

Computer Specs for Games, Reccommend Video Cards?
Well probably the CPU but use

http://www.systemrequirementslab.com/ref...

to be sure. If you know the amount of VRAM your GFX card has that would be helpful but I would suggest just using the sight listed above for that as well. It just scans you comp and tells you what you have that wouldn't be able or would be able to play the selected game.
Reply:Both.

Even if you get a high end video card, the CPU will bottleneck the graphics card... so you will see more performance, but not near how much you want to see.

I would suggest a Core2Duo or Core2Quad, if your motherboard supports it for Intel, or an AMD X2 6000+ or Phenom X4's for AMD, and at least a 8600GT or higher for a video card. (Also PCI-E)

You might just want to upgrade your processor, motherboard, and graphics card, and basically make a new computer...
Reply:I'd go video card first, as long as your system is PCI-Express and not AGP. Depending on how deep you want to get into it I recommend NVIDIA 8800 as long as you're not planning on running SLI. If you are thinking about SLI, go with and AGI card and try their crossfire technology as you can't run SLI via NVIDIA cards on an Intel system.
Reply:The RAM is sufficent. If the P4 is a dual, your fine. If your board is AGP get a high 7000 geforce. If your PCIe get a mid-high 8000. However if it is a P4 core solo and you want those games its time for a rebuild. A very respectable gamer (tower only) will run about $2000 (if you build it yourself). I can help you build.
Reply:do u have p4 LGA 478 socket? if yes, theres only a minor upgrade u can do.. RAM and 3D card.. ok,ur mobo support AGP only since no LGA 478 (that i know) in today market support for PCI-E + a P4 is a single core.. so,best card available for that is ATI x800,X1950,X1650 or hd2600.. for GF,7600,6800

so,for today gaming,u need a major upgrading which is u have to buy a new pc (if u really in to it).. anyway, all up to u.. g'luck

Do I need a special power supply for crossfiring video cards?

I was looking at newegg today and I noticed that some PSUs have "Supports SLI." Or "Supports Crossfire." My question is: Is this something they use to sell these PSU's, or does the power supply actually NEED to support your dual graphics setup? I'm assuming a PSU that only says "Supports SLI." wouldn't support crossfire?

Do I need a special power supply for crossfiring video cards?
For crossfire you need a master card, so it comes with the connector board and usually an power adapter.

You can get a power supply with dual connectors as well.

Depending on the cards, you may need up to 500-700 watts of power, so make sure you research that first.

What's the difference in perfomance between internal and external video cards?

ok as long as i know internal video card can consume the RAM's memory..but what are the other factor we must consider?

i got an AMD board with a capacity up to 1gb internal video.. so, do you think it is practical i'll invest buying RAM instead buying external video? any way the board can hold up to 4gb RAM

since we all know that external videos are expensive.

pls advice..

thanks

What's the difference in perfomance between internal and external video cards?
This all comes down to what you intend to use the computer for.

If you use your computer for surfing the net, email, word documents and the ocassional DVD then you'll be fine going with the onboard graphics supplied with your motherboard.

If you intend on using the computer to play games, video editing and other grpahics heavy opertaions then there is no way that your onbaord grpahics will be able to support the applications. Firstly the onboard memory of the graphics card is completely devoted to graphics and allows your system RAM to work on other operations. Secondly onboard graphics use more of your CPU's processing power while an external garphics card has its own processing unit. It also has support for higher screen resolutions and has more additional speed and pixel processors.
Reply:If you want to play game like Crysis and Halo3.

Then you must need to buy a PCI Express Card (Graphics Card).
