How can you tell if your video cards overclocked ram is to high?

Also if you use ati tool will it stop on its own when using the find max core or memory speed?

How can you tell if your video cards overclocked ram is to high?
You get one (or more) of the following if its too high:

1. Crashes

2. "broken" screen

3. strange colors all over your screen.

4. BSODs.

5. Displays nothing.
Reply:if its too high your display wont work
Reply:Yeah if it crashes a lot.
Reply:When you overclock your core or memory too high, you will start getting artifacts on the screen. By this, you will start getting a lot of little blips showing up in random places.

The way I like to over clock is to leave the memory at stock speeds, the raise the core until you start getting artifacts, then back it off about 5 MHz or so. Then, do the same for the memory. I have my 8800 GTX running at 630 / 1003 (2006 effective) - from a stock of 575 / 900.

Also, when you overclock it is important to run stress tests. I really like running 3DMark06 for this. The first game test should be sufficient. Remember to be conservative too! Only up it by 5 MHz or so. You don't want to destroy your $500 card because you were too aggressive!

When you think you have found the sweet spot, try playing a game for an hour or so. If your video card crashes (blank screen but the sound keeps going, etc.) back it off a bit. Your max overclock is very closely associated with your cooling abilities.

Good luck!
