Are Video cards different from the graphic card usually found in the PCI slot?

The one I'm talking about is the brown slot in the mother board...I was told that it is for the video card, but when I opened our CPU, I found out that we have non inserted in the slot...And I want to know because our monitor has a problem..It shows white stripes at the top of the screen but shows full screen normally when video driver is not yet installed...

that brown slot is for a AGP graphics card since am guess your using a onboard graphics card, you would probably need to buy the graphics card from ebay since most shops will no longer sell them
Reply:Well generally speaking a video card mayor may not solve your problem. Though there is good news. Getting ANY! video card will incrase your performance.Simply put your RAM in your computer will show less then what is actually installed (ATM) meaning it is taking ram and dedicating it to your video graphics. Now if it is AGP those cards tend to be a bit more pricey. Also you need to know if it is 8X or 4X agp. AGP has been replced by PCIE...and now PCIE2.0 is leading the way. I recommend finding our for sure if it is AGP or not. if it is Newegg would be my recommendation to get a cheap card. about $75 bucks should do.
