Video cards?

ok imma gonna build a custom pc but i was thinking do i really need sli? exacly what does the video cards do ? i kno it clears the picture but imma already get one of these eVGA 512-P2-N637-AR GeForce 7950GT 512MB 256-bit GDDR3 PCI Express x16


KO Superclocked Video Card do you think i need 2? would it help me out when im playing online games

The card you mention should work great with any of todays games. You are probably looking at about $300 for the one card. You should have no need of SLI and two of those cards.





The card you mention 7950GT is direct X9c compatible, which runs all current games.





The thing to consider now is whether to upgrade to Direct x10 compatible videocard. The new games that are going to come out later this year and the beginning of next year will use Direct X10 and the only card that is Direct x10 is the Nvidia GeForce 8800 GTS or GTX.

I was surprised to see the new 320MB verion of 8800GTS I think that you should either get that one for $279.99 or go for the 640mb version for $360.00





Either card should surpass the current performance of the 7950 GT you were considering and the 8800's have the advantage of being DIRECT X10 compatible so they should have a long lifespan for use with new games.





If you get any of the 8800 cards you would not need SLI with those either.
Reply:nah, don't bother with SLI that card you have will run fine I have the same type but a different brand, it runs current games at max settings fine. For what you pay for the extra card to have SLI you are better to get an 8800 card
Reply:thats a good video card,just get like 1 or 2 gigs of ram and your good to go,it also depends what processor you have,but that sounds good to me,also remember that the performance of the cards varies from game to game,it depends what kind games of your playing,take care.
Reply:The video card is the most important component for playing pc games. It has a video processor and lots of ram devoted to rendering 3d graphics. SLI is only for people that want to get 2 high end cards and spend over 800 dollars. One high end card is better than two mid-range cards. If you are going to spend 2 or 300 dollars look at the Radeon 1950 cards. Make sure it has at least 256 bit memory bus.
