When a computer is spiked by lightning are video cards destroyed as well?

It is possible that the video cards were destroyed by a power spike. To prevent this in the future, it might be a good idea to get a uninterruptable power supply (UPS) from your local computer store. I got one from circuit city a while ago and it had a mail-in rebate that brought the price down to about $40.

Depends. It's possible that only the power supply fuse was blown. It's also possible that any combination of components was fried. Best bet is to pull the card (or any other components you want to salvage) and try it in another machine.
Reply:Well, it is possible, but with most computers I work on I have found that just the power supply and/or motherboard was fried.

Try it in another computer if you can.
Reply:They could be yes! I had the bad luck that when Hurricane Katrina was entering florida my computer was on fo some reason n well...the rest is history.
Reply:dude, if your comp gets stuck by lightning the ******* things gonna be fried
