Any suggestions for low-cost but highly effective video cards for PC Gaming?

I'd rather not have to spend over $200 for a good card... the last one I purchased (GeForce3) has lasted me for quite a long time now, but I'm beginning to need something a little more current. Can anyone suggest a good video card?

it really depends on the budget and what type of bus you have.

you'll either have AGP or PCI-E

since you say that you have or had a Geforce 3 im guessing it is AGP and it is 4X

4x doesnt have quite the bandwidth of 8XAGP but it will do pretty good for most games.

for a great sub 200$ card you can't go wrong with a 6600GT

I own 2 and they are great i recommend them all the time. you can find EVGA's for about 109.99 and BFG's for about 149.99 not a bad deal. you may also want to wait for the 7600GT's which are due out at some point lol! they will start about 250$ and drive the prices of the 6600GT's down a little bit more.

a more important thing to look at is how dated the rest of your computer is. games are starting to depend on the cpu alot more these days. with a dated cpu and not enough ram the video card will not make such a steller improvment over what you had.
Reply:Umm... agp or pci-ex? I'm going to guess Agp, in which case I'd reccomend this one: http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/...

Geforce 6800 from Asus with 512mb GDDR2 for $195
Reply:ebay.
Reply:Get the geforce 6800GS from tigerdirect.com. It's the last (and best) 6800 they made before the new 7800's came out. It's only about $160.
Reply:Radeon X1900 XTX
Reply:A nVidia Geforce 7300 is one of the best for High Definition gaming. It is also fast and pretty efficient.

Reply:nvidia 6800
Reply:Gforce 6800 or a 7200
