Most people I see posting on the internet or hear talking about video cards always say how much ram their video card has, but completely ignore the chipset. (For example they would just say it is a 256Mb card, instead of it is a Geforce 7800 with 256Mb of ram. Not understanding that a Raedon 9600 could have the same amount of ram and much worse performance.) I feel like this is a big problem among less tech savvy gamers.
Why doesn't anyone understand that how much ram a video card has is a small factor in how good the card is?

because people like to sound like they know what they are talking about. when someone hears 256 megabytes it sounds like you know what you are talking about even when you dont.

512mb of video memory with a 128 interface is worse then
256mb with 256 interface
